Due to the Extreme Cold Warning issued for Crete and the surrounding area, there will be no school or activities on Tuesday, February 18th.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Crete will be under an Extreme Cold Warning from 9:00 PM on Monday, February 17th, until 12:00 PM on Tuesday, February 18th. The NWS predicts wind chills of -27°F at 6:00 AM and -29°F at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
While Crete Public Schools has no minimum temperature for closures, we typically base our decisions on official NWS warnings. Given that this Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until midday Tuesday, we have determined that closing school is the safest decision for our students, staff, and families.
We understand that wind chills will remain cold on Wednesday and Thursday, and we will continue to monitor conditions as each day is evaluated individually.
